This is the watch I'm wearing today, and isn't it a beauty? It is yet another 25th anniversary G-Shock, but this one is part of the Ocean Gray collection. Like my 20th anniversary G-Shock, the construction and design of this watch is very similar to the original G-Shock watch, the DW-5000. While it does have the gold buckle, buttons and screwback of the Dawn Black series, that's where the similarities end. Most obviously, this watch has gray-tinted clear band and bezel through which you can see the gold-tone steel case of the watch itself. It also has a unique LCD display with a mirrored back. When lit with the EL backlight, it looks like a reversed display. Because of the metal case and screwback the head of this watch is much heavier than you'd expect (and it's tough to get it balanced for photos.) It's a very solid feeling that you get from the similarly constructed Frogmen or I suppose vintage screwbacks, but it's very different than most modern G-Shocks which are primarily plastic. That's it for this week as tomorrow is Independence Day, but I'll be back next week to continue the "Non-Stop G-Shocks".
